WHO Are You… Kidding?

The Toronto Sun reports that the World Health Organization (WHO) is taking a lot of heat for its Swine Flu (H1N1) fear mongering.

In a thoroughly disgusting bit of doublethink, an unnamed WHO ‘expert’ said in testimony before the Council of Europe that accusations of incompetence “trivialize the deaths of over 14,000 people.”

The federal and provincial governments in Canada spent approximately CAD 500 million on this non-event, which could have been spent on real threats.

In trying to save face, the WHO’s leaders trivialize the deaths of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of individuals who could have benefited from the funds that were wasted this past year, due to the WHO’s bumbling ineptitude.

Most vile and inexcusable of all is that, when a real threat looms, people inured to the prattling of the Chicken Littles at the Bureaucracy That Cried Wolf will be disinclined to take it seriously, which could lead to real tragedy.

I’ve been calling shenanigans on this since June of 2009.

Invest accordingly.

A friend of mine got a swine flu vaccine about a month ago. He ended up coming down with what he is convinced was a mild case of the flu. Not only was this panic a non-starter, but the ‘cure’ quite literally could have been worse than the ailment, if the vaccine really did lead to an increase in labor loss over what would have happened in the absence of the vaccine.

  2. No one in my house got the Swine Flu shot, yet we all survived. But it’s true what you say about previous hysteria keeping people from listening to later calls for alarm. One of the reasons I was skeptical about Swine Flu is that I remembered what a non-event SARS was. (Remember SARS, that disease that was going to kill us all?)

SARS, heterosexual suburban AIDS, ebola, the list goes on.

Remember the scare of Y2K and how folks said it was a non-event? It was a non-event because of all the prior-planning and changes made throughout the technology world. SARS was not a non-event either. Too many people died during that outbreak as well as during this more recent Swine Flu outbreak. I also believe that the public was more informed about the Swine Flu outbreak and what to do to prevent infection than they ever were. The vast majority of public bathrooms I walked into had signs about hand washing and the proper way to blow your nose/cough/sneeze. I also remember more public announcements this time around then next. An ounce of prevention…….is what I believe we experienced here.

Anyway…I got distracted by this blog…..and I have to go back to see why I was really going to contact you CWE.

One of the reasons there have not been more deaths and hospitalizations is precisely because of the response. 70 million vaccinated is no small number, especially in terms of herd immunity.
